Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) top engineers are eying the vacant seat at a sister organization.
Top among the Engineers are James Njuguna Gatitu, the Director of Road Assets at KeNHA.
The vacant position is at Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
Also eying the seat is Gatitu’s Deputy Engineer Kandie, the man in charge of the Fuel Levy funded Performance Based Contract (PBC).
The KeNHA bulls are locked in tight lobbying with Engineer Chanji of KeRRA, Engineer Gichohi and Engineer Ariga.
Engineer Omer is also said to be eying the KURA job as part of the expected realignment once DP William Ruto allies are kicked out of Government.
The move has led to near pandemonium at the State Department of Roads and Infrastructure.
Both Gatitu and Kandie come from Eldoret and Baringo respectively. Both are known to be close to power brokers from Rift Valley. Gatitu was born and bred at Eldoret North, while Engineer Kandie is from Baringo Central.
Engineer Ariga is close to mandarins around former Prime Minister Raila Odinga while Gichohi is a political orphan of the former President Kibaki era.
Since the appointment of Engineer Ndirangu as the KeNHA chairman, Gatitu has been running scared at the department after rumours that Engineer Kivoto, his former classmate at the Engineers class of 87 is about to be confirmed to the position of Director.
Kivoto was a side kick and puppet of Gatitu, until the no nonsense Engineer Ndirangu replaced the lacklustre Engineer Erastus Mwongera.
Ndirangu has ordered a major reshuffle at KeNHA that leaves Gatitu and his associates exposed.
Among those who have been camping at political offices to avoid the Ndirangu wrath is Engineer Omuomo, a close ally of Governor Mutua of Machakos.
Omuomo is facing a backlash over plunder of road reserve assets by residents of Machakos County.

Engineer Makori, another powerful KeNHA man is said to be eying a move back to the KeNHA headquarters after he was sidelined by the former Mwongera regime.
He is very unpopular in Mombasa over the demolition of road reserves and his close association with a Mombasa based tycoon.
But the KeNHA men will face clearance issues from the DCI. Most of them are on the radar over the handling of key projects during their watch at regional offices.
Gatitu is on the radar over complaints by tenderpreneurs who failed to get projects during his tenure at Special Projects department.
Gatitu and Kandie enjoy the backing of Daniel Wamahiu of Roben and Aderdare Contractors Limited and former Chairman of Kenya Pipeline.
Wamahiu is one of the most connected entrepreneurs from Nyeri County, where he seeks to unseat the current Governor.
But Wamahiu has one disadvantage. He is said to be close to the DP William Ruto wing of Jubillee which is taking Central Kenya by storm.
The Nyeri Governor Kahiga has placed County spies around Wamahiu and has even asked KRA to probe his wealth which the latter has been flaunting.
Two weeks ago, despite a gag on gatherings by the Government, Wamahiu met more than 20 people at his home.
Things are elephant as 2022 approaches furiously.
