Kumbe if street kids can be encouraged and mentored well they can do better in education. Last year we celebrated our end of year party with all the kids in our county rehabilitation centres in a ceremony held at Makadara rehabilitation centre. In the same event, the firstlady of Nairobi HE Primrose Mbuvi Sonko was distributing bursary cheques to various pupils in the centres who sat for exams in 2018, she had a deal with the next lot which was sitting for their exams this year’s 2019. The deal was the former street kids to surprise the world by at least scoring 400 marks. They have done it one of them, a 16 year old pupil Simon Gituku has made us proud by scoring 410 marks in the 2019 KCPE Examination. Sam together with other street kids were surrounded and rescued by our city inspectorate officers at globe cinema roundabout in an operation to remove street kids from the CBD in 2017. They were taken to various county rehabilitation centres.
I want to encourage parents and all pupils countrywide, it doesn’t matter which background you come from, your situation isn’t permanent. Do not give up. Parents, keep on pushing and encourage your kids to study hard, spare sometime with them frequently to motivate their morale in studying as education is the main key to success.
My administration will continue to support and rehabilitate these street kids for they need hope in life and no one deserves to be homeless. And to pupils from other schools from Nairobi county count on our support as well, we shall distribute our bursary forms to all our county public schools as we normally do every year.
Finally I want to congratulate the Firstlady of Nairobi County for taking the journey of these young kids personally. She has mentored them and now we can see the fruits of her initiative.

What do you think?
